World-class K–12 curriculum, completely free — the closest thing to a miracle in education technology

Why We Like It
Khan Academy is the best free educational resource ever built, and for many elementary schoolers it is all they need. The curriculum is rigorous, the mastery model is pedagogically sound, and the parent dashboard is better than most paid services. The limitation is that it requires a motivated learner or an engaged parent to use effectively — it is not a substitute for a human tutor who builds a relationship with a struggling child.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Completely free, forever — no subscription, no trial, no credit card — a full K–12 curriculum available to any child with an internet connection
- Mastery-based learning model ensures kids genuinely understand concepts before advancing rather than moving on with gaps
- Parent dashboard shows exactly what your child has practiced, where they are struggling, and what they have mastered — better reporting than most paid services
Cons
- Self-directed format requires significant parental involvement to keep elementary-age children on task — it is a tool, not a tutor
- No live human interaction means children who need relational motivation or who have questions a video cannot answer will hit a ceiling
